MICYRN signs Memorandum of Understanding with the European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network (ECRIN)
On 27 December 2024 ECRIN and MICYRN signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the intention of better aligning their collaboration and capacity to jointly provide operational support to international trials. This is of particular importance as the Government of Canada and the European Commission signed an agreement in July 2024 authorising enhanced participation of Canada in Pillar 2 of the Horizon Europe Programme.
ECRIN-ERIC (www.ecrin.org) is a sustainable, not-for-profit, distributed infrastructure providing operational, coordinated services in the conduct of multinational clinical research projects in Europe. ECRIN is based on the connection of national networks of clinical research centres and clinical trials units. By a Commission Decision (2013/713/EU) of 29 November 2013, ECRIN was granted a sustainable legal personality as an ERIC - European Research Infrastructure Consortium, a legal status established upon the Council Regulation (EC) nº 723/2009 of 25 June 2009) supported by the contributions of its Member and Observer countries. ECRIN provides access to European patient population, to medical expertise, and takes advantage of existing capacities and expertise to manage trials at national level, in each participating country, to provide coordinated support to multinational trials.
With the two entities, ECRIN and MICYRN working towards similar goals on opposite sides of the Atlantic, this Memorandum of Understanding will further strengthen the capacity of both parties and open doors to concrete collaboration activities. This marks a very exciting milestone for ECRIN to collaborate beyond its continental borders.
